Trying to become an early riser is a beast at any time, but in winter (when everything is cold, dark, and dreary) the siren song of your warm blanket pile can be irresistible. It’s so easy to talk yourself back into falling asleep and prolong facing the harsh outside world for a few more hours. But, as we all know, there are a ton of benefits to waking up early, like reduced stress, increased productivity, and a better attitude overall. I used to be the biggest night owl (like staying up until three or four in the morning on a regular basis). I thought that because I enjoyed staying up late it meant that was the best schedule for me; after all, whether you wake up at 6 am or go to bed at 3 am you’re getting roughly the same waking hours. As a struggling college student who works part-time and odd jobs to support myself, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to want to eat healthy on a (very) limited grocery budget. So here are my top 5 tips for cheap, easy meal planning…   1.) Plan your week. Surprise, surprise, successful meal planning actually involves planning! Sit down on whatever day you grocery shop and plan what meals you want to eat that week. You can easily DIY a whiteboard to have three separate slots for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of the week. Pick out what you want to make, but leave room for spontaneity. If Tuesday rolls around and you decide that Friday’s dinner plan would really hit the spot, switch them! The meal plan isn’t a contract – it’s a guideline.
